Mixing Up Magic with Meow Kitty

Hi, my name is Brenda and I am a notorious kit mixer. If one kit is great, two kits are wonderful, and three or more kits means Iโ€™m spoiled for choice. It doesnโ€™t hurt that Studio Livโ€™s kits play so well together. ๐Ÿ˜‰ This week, Iโ€™m pairing Meow Kitty with some other favorites of mine and Iโ€™d love to share a little bit of my kit mixing magic with you.

Meow Kitty [hearts] Lunar Rainbow

When I saw Meow Kitty for the first time, I knew immediately I wanted to pair it with Lunar Rainbow. I was thinking purely along the lines of color and some of the motifs – mostly purple, stars, gradients, and rainbows because those are the things that drew me to Studio Liv in the first place. Itโ€™s become a running joke about how much I (over)use Lunar Rainbow because I love it so much but it really does look fantastic paired with Meow Kitty.

While scrapping, I have both kits open side by side so I can look at all my options and choose my favorite details. Sometimes I switch things out a few times as I go until Iโ€™m happy with how it looks. I originally planned to scrap a photo of a rainbow over my house but then I found this amazing inflatable rainbow from a traveling exhibit at the art museum. At that point, I switched out the background papers to echo the white space of the museum, the playful rainbow, and the color of my sonโ€™s outfit. I made a point to make sure I had flowers in every color to really embrace the theme.

Meow Kitty [hearts] Pop Girls

But why stop at one pairing? I also really wanted to see Meow Kitty with Pop Girls. I was originally picturing a tribute to the 90s but went a different direction when I unearthed these photos. I went in a shiny, pop art-themed direction to complement my son exploring an Andy Warhol installation at the art museum. I made sure to include both versions of the clouds and stars paper from Meow Kitty because a) it was perfectly on theme and b) I couldnโ€™t decide which one I liked better. I also chose a disco ball and a cd paper from Pop Girls because I thought they were fun! I brought in cd sequins, a puffy silver glitter alpha, and a star flair to continue the theming.

Sometimes a kit doesnโ€™t have what I need and I end up searching my stash for an element to recolor to match. That was my plan until I found a piece of silver, sparkly ricrac in Tuxedo that was perfect as-is. As I said, Iโ€™m a notorious kit mixer.

Meow Kitty [hearts] Itโ€™s Hallowe’en

Finally, I have one more page with the very first combination I thought of when I heard Olivia was making Meow Kitty: a pairing with Itโ€™s Halloweโ€™en. My son has a Squishmallow that weโ€™ve named Hello Pumpkin and I wanted to pay tribute to her adorableness. I specifically chose to use Itโ€™s Halloweโ€™en because the pastel color palette keeps things feeling playful and not over-the-top spooky. I started by bringing in the colors of the plush – cream, orange, yellow, green, charcoal, and lavender from her bow – and chose a few thematic elements from both kits to complement.

This is probably the most pared-back of the kit combinations and also the one with the least Meow Kitty in it. But sometimes all a page needs is a few subtle patterned papers, a few highlighted elements, and your special photos. Iโ€™m still working on not throwing two whole kits at my layouts but Iโ€™m getting there.

Thank you so much for letting me share the chaos in my head as I create. Are there any other kits youโ€™d love to see make some new friends? Please let me know any other kits youโ€™d love to see me mix up magic with.
