Your beginner’s guide to a new hobby!
I’ve been scrapbooking for nearly 18 years (!), primarily digitally, and I would LOVE to see more people discover this hobby and see that it’s for everyone.
“Documenting history” sounds so dramatic, but seriously, your lived experience is beautiful, important and worth remembering. It’s fun and creative, too!
So, let me show you the ropes and let me know if you have questions; I’m happy to answer and assist!
What is digital scrapbooking?
Just like paper scrapbooking, digital scrapbooking is all about documenting memories, expressing yourself and telling your story. We just use some different supplies to make it digitally, similar to digital collage or graphic design.

Why you’ll love scrapbooking
- You are a creative person and love arts and crafts
- You want to remember moments, collect photos and document major life events for yourself or loved ones
- You love journaling (and just found a new way to express yourself!)

Recommended supplies
- A computer, tablet or phone
- Software like Photoshop, Canva, Affinity, GIMP, etc.
- Decorative pieces: Stickers, patterns, embellishments, alphabets
- Your photos and stories!

Tips for your first page
- Find inspiration on Instagram, Pinterest or galleries like Sweet Shoppe Designs
- Pick photos you love or a story you don’t want to forget
- Keep it low stakes; it should be fun and can be experimental! It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Page one done, what’s next?
- Watch or read tutorials about your program of choice
- Try different styles: pocket, maximalism, simple, art journaling
- Share (if you want) online or with friends and family
