From inspiration to illustration: Kitschy Kitchen
Hello! This weekend I am in the spotlight at Sweet Shoppe Designs, and my new featured kit, Kitschy Kitchen, is free with your $10 purchase in the store.
Kitschy Kitchen
Behind the scenes
I want to share a little background about this kit and my inspirations. If you’re familiar with me, then you know I love thrifting, vintage home decor and lots of mid-century vibes. Let’s explore the pieces in my collection that I drew for the kit.
This first piece doesn’t live in my kitchen, but it captures the mid-century modern vibe so I had to include it in the kit. I bought both the lamp and shade secondhand separately, and they were just made for each other! I love the diamond shapes and curves of the lamp base.
My next piece is quite large! This Hoosier cabinet was from a friend of my Grandma’s. I love the skirt on the lower open cabinet and the slide-up door in the middle. There is also the flour sifter still on the left. I took liberties with the illustration of it, making it more squished and cutesy!
The final pieces, which probably kicked off making this whole collection, is this set of strawberry canisters. They were a gift to my Grandma, and then they were at my mom’s house when I was growing up. I was able to take them with me when I moved out. I cherish them and their adorable design. They stay in my kitchen and hold my bag clips, drink powders and teas.
Aside from my own pieces, I also found lots of inspiration on Pinterest. I could browse the Pyrex and other vintage goodies forever… but I collected my favorites to color sample in a mood board:
Creating a mood board helped me find the similarities between the images I liked and the illustration style for the collection.
I hope this peek behind the curtain was intriguing! I plan to share more in the future.
